	Hewlett Packard, HP printer paper feed issues, jams occur in three main areas:-

If your Hewlett Packard, HP laser printer is concertinaing the paper and jamming or not feeding the paper, then you will invariably require one of our mobile HP trained technicians to carryout a repair. The paper feed mechanism in your Hewlett Packard, HP laser printer relies on the paper being fed from the cassette (source) to the paper tray (exit) within a set amount of time. The laser printer has switches set at various intervals along the paper path, the paper must activate all of these switches within the preset time. If the laser printer fails in this task the machine will indicate a jam.

	This fault usually occurs when the paper cannot be fed from the cassette, the common cause for this is worn out paper feed components. The printer has 3 paper feed components:- Primary paper feed tyre, feeds the the topmost sheet of paper into the pinch gap formed by the next two components. Secondary paper feed tyre forms the pinch gap with item 3 the separation pad/roller, the printer relies on the grip of the secondary feed roller being greater then the resistance offered by the separation pad. Separation pad, acts to stop a second piece of paper being fed during the feed process. These three feed components are made from rubber, over time the latex in the rubber dries out, and the roller becomes hard and will no longer grip the paper. We can either supply new paper feed components for you to fit or one of our Hewlett Packard, HP trained technicians can visit your premises in Brighton, Hove and Henfield where we will fit and service the laser printer. We recommend all three components are changed at the same time, failure to do so will cause continued problems. On average a paper feed kit costs approximately £25.00 + vat.

	If you choose to buy the cheapest paper you will not be surprised when your printer jams and the quality of your output is only fit for the bin! Digital Office Solutions recommend that you use a good quality paper of at least 80gsm. We supply Xerox Performer 80gsm paper from £2.05 + vat per ream, this is a good quality paper that will cope with most common office requirements.

Problems can also arise in Hewlett Packard, HP laser printers in this area when the paper guides in the cassette are not set correctly, when this happens the paper sits to far from front edge of the cassette, the primary feed tyre turns a set amount (just enough to transport the paper to the secondary feed tyre). If the paper is sitting to far back in the paper tray the primary feed tyre will not get the sheet to the pinch gap between secondary feed tyre and the resist pad and a jam will result. Ensure that the side and rear paper guides in the paper cassette are set tight to the paper.

	A common problem occurs when the paper size wheel on the front of a Hewlett Packard, HP paper cassette is set to a different size to paper in the cassette. When this happens the machine jams due to expecting a bit of paper 420mm's long (A3) and a piece of paper 297mm long (A4r) goes through so the machine stops due to the size difference. Ensure that the paper in the cassette is the same as the size wheel.

This message is very common, especially when printing e-mails. The problem arises when you receive an email from someone abroad or someone in the UK who has there computer set as being in America (the default setting in Microsoft Windows operating systems) the e-mail inherits its page setup information from the senders PC, so when you try and print the email it asks you to install letter size paper on the MP tray. The problem here is until someone either clears the print job or loads letter size paper in the MP Tray (MP means multi-purpose tray or bypass tray) the machine will not print anything else. You can sometimes clear this by pushing the on line button and the machine will ignore the paper size issue and print the job whatever paper is loaded in the machine. If this does not work turn the machine off to clear the printer memory, which will allow other users to print. The problem will occur again if the same e-mail is sent to the printer, unless you are able to change the properties of the email.

This usually happens when something blocks the exit of the fuser unit, this can be a dislodged picker finger or dislodged fuser exit switch, the paper gets stuck behind the blockage. As the paper is continued to be fed by the fuser the paper folds up into a nice little fan.
